About VOLLERS
Built over time for the work ahead.
VOLLERS is a 100 percent employee-owned heavy civil construction company focused on Sitework, Utilities, and Demolition.
Since 1949, VOLLERS has grown from a small family business into a company equipped to take on substantial heavy civil work. Today, our teams plan the work, put the right people and equipment in the field, respond when conditions change, and follow through on what we take on.

The company grew by building what the work required.
Herb and Nancy Vollers founded the company in 1949. The business began as a small family operation rooted in farming and excavation, then grew into commercial construction and the heavy civil work VOLLERS performs today.
As the work got bigger, VOLLERS built the company around it, adding people, equipment, capabilities, and specialist resources to take on more substantial jobs.

Over time
Built for bigger work
As projects grew in size and complexity, VOLLERS added the people, equipment, and construction capabilities needed to take on more.
2024
Employee owned
VOLLERS transitions from family ownership to 100 percent employee ownership through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan effective January 1, 2024.
Today
Built around substantial heavy civil work
Sitework, Utilities, and Demolition are at the center of the VOLLERS construction business, supported by additional capabilities and specialist resources as the work requires.
A new ownership chapter, with the work still at the center.
Today, VOLLERS is 100 percent employee owned through an ESOP.
Employee ownership is meant to reinforce how we want people to approach the work: care about the outcome, think beyond your own task, use good judgment, understand how your decisions affect the job around you, and follow through.
Those ideas line up with expectations already established at VOLLERS: identify issues early, communicate directly, bring practical solutions, and take responsibility for your part of the work.

Built for Substantial Work
VOLLERS owns more than 200 pieces of heavy equipment and performs its field work with 100% union labor. We can put the equipment and people on a project to match the scale, schedule, and conditions of the work.

Leadership should happen close to the work.
At VOLLERS, leadership is broader than a title.
People are expected to understand what they are responsible for, identify issues early, communicate directly, use judgment within their role, bring practical solutions, and follow through.
That does not mean everyone has the same authority. Decisions should stay as close to the work as practical, with issues moved up when safety, quality, contract, cost, or business consequences require it.

substantial self-performance, with more capability when the job calls for it.
VOLLERS substantially self-performs its core construction work. When a project calls for more, we can bring in specialist companies, qualified subcontractors, and other resources suited to the job.
That allows VOLLERS to take on broader site packages while building the team around what the work actually requires.
